Charleston to meet the Sea Princess doing the World cruise from Australia.

A friend and her daughters were on the world cruise with a stop in Charleston so took the opportunity to visit with them for the day.  I drove to meet Aubrey who was working in Augusta which was on the route, we left Augusta early the next morning as we wanted to watch the Sea Princess arrive – always so exciting.
Watched the ship come in and dock, there were 2 other couples waiting to meet people off the ship.
We headed out to the plantation and got there before the crowds – toured the plantation house and slave quarters, did the trolley tour around the grounds.
Shopped at the outlet mall and went for a southern BBQ lunch.
Walked downtown, along the waterfront and spend a great day with friends we don’t get to see too often.

We stayed overnight in Charleston so headed back to the market in the morning for a little before taking a drive to visit a friend in Port Royal and do a little sightseeing there and in Beaufort SC.

Port Royal is really quaint and we stopped in town while walking thru it at a little coffee spot that had such a nice vibe.

Planned trips

We have a few planned:
Cinque Terre for a few days with a TA back to FLL on Crown Princess.
Hawaii cruise on Emerald Princess.
Land trip to Costa Rica in May.
Booked Emerald Princess TA with stop in Morocco but tentatively looking at other options.

Catchup update

So it’s years since I started this blog and never got further than the starting block.

Update highlights for the last few years on each of us.

Tarryn graduated high school and we went on a mother daughter trip to Italy – ended up being her friend and her parents and my parents too. We cruises from Venice to Barcelona with a few days in each post and past cruise and a quicker than planned stop in Paris.
Tarryn went off to college. After 4 years and college graduation she went to Israel for a year to teach English, travelled over her vaca breaks to Europe including lots of places on my visit list. She got home and moved to Virginia for work and gets to travel for work – so glad she caught the travel bug from me LOL.

Adam – while Tarryn and I were on her graduation trip Adam stayed with friends and started having pain in his legs, after about 8 months of doctor after doctor visit he was diagnosed with UC/Crohn’s and RA in both hips. This was life changing for him and life changing for the rest of the family and consumed us for the next few years which consisted of me researching anything and everything I could regarding his DX. Life was consumed with hospital visits, doctor after doctor visit, meds via infusions, orally and everything we could find – nothing helped his chronic disease to make his life easier.
Finally got him thru high school but his plan to join the air force was not possible, he stopped flying as it was tough to get into the small cockpit.
I convinced him and the doctor to let us do a mother son graduation trip and I booked for a organized trip to China – we had an amazing time after the stress of the first 2 days.
Last year he went with me to Costa Rica and he loved the zip lining, good food etc.
This year he did his first TA with me too and it was my first time travelling with him on my own with him using a cane and chair.
Hoping to travel with him and let him see that having his disease does not need to stop him doing and travelling.

Aubrey started working doing jobs that were mostly out of town just before Tarryn graduated high school and Adam got diagnosed. We have managed our at least once a year ‘longer trips’ along with some shorter trips. We went back to South Africa after at least 20 years to surprise his mom for her 80thbirthday, had an awesome week in Cape town and a great visit to Kruger – being away we have forgotten how gorgeous South Africa is. We went on a cruise that stopped in Tenerife where we had honeymooned 25 years prior. Visited Shetland Island, Norway, Iceland, saw the Northern lights, met friends in NY, visited Israel which was also after at least 20 years. We visited Costa Rica this year and did lots of long weekends fixing the condo in Florida. Most years involved a TA cruise with time tagged on.

My years have been consumed with work, research via reading blogs, watching lectures on youtube etc.
Some highlights were travelling on mom kid trips with both when they graduated high school, visiting Iceland, Tenerife, China, South Africa and meeting Prof Tim Noakes one of my heroes, Israel, couple of trips to Costa Rica.
I love planning trips, travel blog reading and plan to blog each of our future trips.
